10 to 20 cm wide, with a prominent central dome covered completely by 50 or more solid, pointed porjections and surrounded by a wide annular furrow; 6 to 8 flatly rounded celar lappets in each octant; mouth-arms with numerous small, short appendages among the frilled mouths.

Members of the class Scyphozoa are gonochoric. Life cycle: Egg is laid by the adult medusa which later develops into a free-living planula, then to a scyphistoma to a strobila, and lastly to a free-living young medusa.
