30 cm wide, flat, disk-shaped, with vertical sides bear margin; with a large, prominent dome, smooth, surrounded by two verticils of solid projections and a wide, shallow furrow; marginal lappets scarely perceptible; eight short bifurcated mouth-arms; no filaments and no club-shaped appendages. Color blue.

Members of the class Scyphozoa are gonochoric. Life cycle: Egg is laid by the adult medusa which later develops into a free-living planula, then to a scyphistoma to a strobila, and lastly to a free-living young medusa.
