White or pale yellow. Round, with distinctive tufts of long spicules. May grow up to 30 cm in height (Ref. 89939).

Suspension feeders. Preyed on by starfishes, with spicules providing defense to some extent (Ref. 89939). Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge (Ref. 833).
