Contact to this species may cause dermatitis (Ref. 87801). This species is found on rocky substrates at depths of 14 to 19 m. It is associated with encrusting sponges and often on scallops (Ref. 87801). Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge (Ref. 833).
