Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

Depth based on Belize from Ref. 86698. Members of the class Clitellata are copulating hermaphrodites. The clitellum, their distinctive feature from polychaetes, serves as a tool in reproduction. It secretes mucus for copulation and forms a cocoon where eggs and albumen are deposited. Life cycle: Zygotes develop in the cocoon and emerge as juveniles which later develop into adults (Ref. 833).
