Western Central Atlantic: USA to western Caribbean and Lesser Antilles.
Found on rocky and sandy bottoms in coral reefs and seagrass beds (Ref. 83922). Also found on rubble and other submerged vegetation (Ref. 97531). Members of the order Decapoda are mostly gonochoric. Mating behavior: Precopulatory courtship ritual is common (through olfactory and tactile cues); usually indirect sperm transfer (Ref. 833).
