Southeast Atlantic and Western Indian Ocean: South Africa.
Inhabits the rocky intertidal region. A plankton feeder that captures minute amphipod crustaceans with the tentacles of its oral hood (Ref. 866). Members of the class Demospongiae are hermaphroditic. Life cycle: The zygote develops into parenchymella larva (free-swimming) before settling down on a substrate where it grows into a young sponge (Ref. 833).
