Found in atoll lagoons (Ref. 97298). Very common on reef flats and common in seaward reef (Ref. 102252). Usually on subtidal rocks and coral reefs (Ref. 102838). Cryptic. Feeds on algae and microbes (Ref. 102252). Members of the class Asteroidea exhibit both asexual (regeneration and clonal) and sexual (gonochoric) means of reproduction. Life cycle: Embryos hatch into planktonic larvae and later metamorphose into pentamorous juveniles which develop into young sea stars with stubby arms (Ref. 833).
