Found from immediate subtidal to 35 m in shelly sand and fine gravel (Ref. 337). Single valves occasionally washed up on the beaches (Ref. 88739). Members of the class Bivalvia are mostly gonochoric, some are protandric hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Embryos develop into free-swimming trocophore larvae, succeeded by the bivalve veliger, resembling a miniature clam (Ref. 833).
