Northeast Atlantic: along the Norwegian coast, Faroe Islands, Barents Sea and Denmark Strait.
Oviparous; simultaneous spawner. Oogenesis lasts for 4 months; spermatogenesis lasts for 2.5 months. Oocyte development is synchronous, takes place in the mesohyl; spermatozoa development is asynchronous, within the cyst scattered around the mesohyl. During spawning, both oocyte and spermatozoa leave the sponge through an excurremt canal (Ref. 100660). Spawning begins in late May or early June (Ref. 100660).
