Marine, planktonic (Ref. 1134). It is found exclusively on oceanic waters; however in other regions there is preferential distribution in neritic waters and oceanic warm zones (Ref. 3528). Members of the class Appendicularia are protandrous hermaphrodites. Life cycle: Eggs develop into hatchlings (feeding juveniles) before turning into adults (Ref. 833).
