Short description
Forms dome-shaped colonies usually less than 1 m in diameter with large phaceloid corallites less than 3 cm in diameter. When a live, the several centimeters long, unbranched, brown tentacles easily distinguishes this species (Ref. 269).

Biology     Glossary (e.g. epibenthic)

May be common in protected lagoons and on reef slopes (Ref. 269). Has high bleaching level in Palau (Ref. 66144). Members of the class Anthozoa are either gonochoric or hermaphroditic. Mature gametes are shed into the coelenteron and spawned through the mouth. Life cycle: The zygote develops into a planktonic planula larva. Metamorphosis begins with early morphogenesis of tentacles, septa and pharynx before larval settlement on the aboral end (Ref. 833).
