Two color morphs are known: one uniform tan and the other speckled with numerous red to maroon spots.
Occurs at depths from 10 to 50 m. Rocky to shelly substrates. Subtropical and tropical climates (Ref. 343). Members of the order Decapoda are mostly gonochoric. Mating behavior: Precopulatory courtship ritual is common (through olfactory and tactile cues); usually indirect sperm transfer (Ref. 833).
