Maximum depth from Ref. 97531. A permanent resident of the deep mesopelagic zone; does not undergo diel vertical migrations. Feeds heavily on fish and crustaceans although diet may contain phytoplankton and protist debris (Ref. 97393). Members of the order Decapoda are mostly gonochoric. Mating behavior: Precopulatory courtship ritual is common (through olfactory and tactile cues); usually indirect sperm transfer (Ref. 833).
