Definition of Term

chryopsin
(english) A golden colored retinal pigment found in deepsea teleosts. Its absorptions curve is similar to the spectral emission curve of bioluminescence, indicating that eyes containing it are problably used for observing photophores, e.g. in Myctophum punctatum.
