Definition of Term

air bladder
(english) A tough-walled gas-filled sac lying in the upper part of the body cavity of many bony fishes just beneath the vertebral column; its principal function is to offset the weight of heavier tissue such as bone. In some fishes used for sound production or respiration. Connected to the oesophagus in primitive fishes (physoclists). (See also: gas bladder, swim bladder, physoclistous)

(french) Sac de paroi résistant et rempli de gaz dans la partie supérieure de la cavité du corps au-dessous de la colonne vertébrale de beaucoup de poissons osseux ; sa fonction principale est de compenser le poids de tissus lourds tel que l'os. bexiga natatória
(portuguese) Saco de paredes resistentes, cheio de gás, situado na parte superior da cavidade abdominal dos peixes, por baixo da coluna vertebral; a sua função principal é a de controlar a flutuabilidade dos peixes, emitir sons ou respirar.
