Short description Morphology

12 to 15 cm wide, flatter than a hemisphere, exumbrella with fine granules and minute, sharp-pointed projections; four large velar lappets in each octant; mouth-arms as long as diameter of bell, much folded, the numerous mouths surrounded by minute clubs and nemuerous long filaments; twocentripetal vessels between adjacent radial canals.

Members of the class Scyphozoa are gonochoric. Life cycle: Egg is laid by the adult medusa which later develops into a free-living planula, then to a scyphistoma to a strobila, and lastly to a free-living young medusa.
