Indo-Pacific and the Mediterranean. Tropical to subtropical waters.

Subtidal on hard bottom (Ref. 106854). Known from littoral to a depth of 128 m; in sandy mud areas (Ref. 77944) and lithothamnion bottom (Ref. 81840). A browser found inside sponges. Reported from Hong Kong to be found in a marine cave (Ref. 79729). Also in dead coral galleries (Ref. 126978).
