Growth form: clustered interconnected tubes, or flat, lobate mass that forms upright, short interconnected tubes. Surface is smooth; slightly irregular in lobate individuals. External color: bright to pale blue, mauve, brownish, gray with whitish spots, or off-white. Internal color paler than exterior. Firm spongy consistency. May vary with depth: bright blue interconnected tubes form in deeper water; grey-whitish irregular forms in coral crevices. |
